About

Transformative Tides didn’t begin as a brand. It began as me, offering coaching under my own name.

That work grew out of lived experience — grief, complex trauma, and reaching the edges of conventional support. I started coaching after realizing that not every moment needs insight or a breakthrough. Sometimes what’s needed is simpler: someone willing to stay.

In 2024, the work expanded and became Transformative Tides. I began offering sound baths alongside coaching, drawn to the way sound can create space when words feel thin.

I began offering poetic listening quietly in 2025 and formally integrated it into the practice in 2026.

What started as one modality became a wider practice — not because I was building a brand, but because the work kept evolving.

Where I’m Oriented now

Today, Transformative Tides brings together body-oriented coaching, sound baths, and poetic listening.

They may look different on the surface, but they’re rooted in the same orientation: responsive presence. I work in real time, paying attention to pacing, tone, and what’s happening in the space between us. Rather than following a script, I adjust to what’s actually unfolding.

In coaching, that means sessions shape themselves around your language and your pauses. In sound work, I respond to the rhythm of the room. In poetic listening, the poem emerges directly from the cadence of your words. Different forms, same underlying attention.

I focus on grief, transition, and the in-between moments that are hard to name. I approach this work with the belief that people are not problems to solve. While some moments benefit from insight; others call for something quieter. My work centers those quieter moments.

I’m less interested in leading you somewhere than I am in staying with the person who’s already here.

Sometimes shifts happen. Sometimes nothing dramatic happens at all. Both are welcome.

Transformative Tides is an invitation to meet what’s moving rather than brace against it — to be witnessed without being corrected.

About Erika

I'm Erika Hood, founder of Transformative Tides. I'm a body-oriented coach, sound facilitator, and poetic listener.

My background is in improvisational performance and film. Those fields taught me to listen closely, respond in real time, and stay with uncertainty instead of trying to control it. That training shapes how I facilitate now.

My work is also shaped by lived experience — grief, complex trauma, and addiction in my family system. Those experiences changed how I understand support and how I hold space. I move slowly. I value honesty. I don’t rush people toward conclusions.

Training & Professional Grounding

My work is informed by ongoing study and training in:

  • Body-oriented coaching training (The Somatic School)

  • Somatic attachment and trauma-oriented study (The Embody Lab)

  • Trauma-informed care education

  • Grief and communal mourning lineage influenced by Francis Weller and related teachers

  • Sound facilitation training with crystal singing bowls

  • Certified Listener Poet training through The Good Listening Project

  • Ongoing facilitator training and continuing study

I am not licensed or supervised as a clinician, and my offerings are non-clinical.

personal note

I speak plainly. I value humor, honesty, and relational presence. This work feels most helpful when it stays grounded and real. You are the expert on your experience. My role is to offer a space where you don’t have to perform or over-explain yourself to be understood.
