Ceremonial Sound for Grief & Remembrance
Gentle, non-verbal sound accompaniment for funerals, memorials, and transitional moments
In-person offerings in the Greater Saint Louis Area
Grief asks a lot of the people carrying it. To show up. To hold it together. To find the right words, or accept that there aren't any. To be present for everyone else in the room while quietly managing their own.
Ceremonial sound doesn't ask anything of you. It's live acoustic sound — crystal singing bowls played in the space with you and whoever is there with you. There's nothing to do, nothing to say, and nothing to feel in any particular way. It simply stays in the room, for as long as it's needed, and is meant to hold what words cannot.
HOW THIS DIFFERS FROM A TYPICAL SOUND BATH
A traditional sound bath is usually an immersive experience — participants lie down, close their eyes, and let the sound move through them. It's designed for deep rest and inward focus.
Ceremonial sound is different in both form and intention. The instrumentation, pacing, and acoustic choices are shaped specifically for grief and emotionally tender environments. And while some sessions do invite a more restful, immersive experience, nobody is asked to close their eyes or drop into a meditative state. The sound is present in the room the way a steady hand might be — there if you need it, unobtrusive if you don't. It shapes itself around the people and the moment rather than asking the people to shape themselves around it.
If you've been to a sound bath before, this will feel familiar in some ways and different in others. If you haven't, you don't need any prior experience. The only thing required is being in the room.
Ceremonial sound SESSIONS
Single-session offerings
Live sound woven into a funeral, memorial, or celebration of life — between readings, after a eulogy, as guests arrive and settle, or as a dedicated moment of collective stillness within the service. The venue is already yours. I coordinate directly with your funeral director, celebrant, or venue — including any documentation or insurance requirements — so that nothing falls to you.
Memorial or Celebration of Life Session
Whenever you're ready, wherever feels right
An intimate session for family or a small group at a private location — a home, a gathering space, wherever feels most comfortable. For any loss worth honoring, any date worth marking, any moment when you're ready to be still with it. There's no required timing and no required format. If you know you want something held and you have a space that's ready to receive it, that's enough.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
A. No. Private Grief sessions can honor any loss that has a date attached to it — a diagnosis, a miscarriage, an accident, a relationship, anything that changed the shape of your life. They can also be for anyone navigating a difficult transition — a terminal diagnosis, a loved one in hospice, a loss that hasn't happened yet but is already being carried.
If you're not sure whether what you're going through fits, get in touch and we'll figure it out together.
-
A. You might simply describe it as live acoustic music played on crystal instruments — something gentle and ambient that gives people in the room somewhere to be without having to do anything. It doesn't require any particular belief or background.
Most people who are uncertain beforehand find that once the sound begins, it makes sense in a way that's hard to explain in advance.
If it would help to have something to share with your family before you bring it up, the Ceremonial Sound Overview is available to download on this page.

A. I dress in a way that's respectful and unobtrusive — typically neutral or muted tones.
If your service has a specific dress code, color, or cultural tradition you'd like me to honor, please let me know when we connect and I'll do my best to align with it.
My goal is to blend into the environment in a way that feels right for your family and the person you're honoring.
-
A. I bring everything needed for the session — crystal singing bowls, a small table or mat, and any supporting instruments.
Setup requires a modest amount of floor or table space and typically takes fifteen to twenty minutes before the session begins. I coordinate directly with the venue or funeral director in advance so there are no surprises on the day.
-
A. Crystal singing bowls are played gently and intentionally in ceremonial contexts — the volume and pacing are shaped to the environment, not the other way around. The sound is resonant and sustained rather than sharp or startling.
If you have specific concerns about the acoustic environment or the sensitivity of anyone in the room, please mention it when you reach out and I'll take it into account.
-
A. The more lead time you can give me, the better — it allows more time to coordinate with venues, prepare for the specific session, and ensure everything feels right for your family and the moment you're honoring.
That said, short notice arrangements are sometimes possible. If you're unsure whether there's enough time, it's still worth reaching out.
-
A. It's not uncommon for timelines to shift — I understand that and I build flexibility into how I work with families. If something changes, reach out as soon as you know and we'll figure it out together.
Specific terms around cancellations and date changes are included in the booking agreement, and I'm always willing to have a direct conversation if circumstances are complicated.

A. My primary service area is the greater St. Louis region, with travel fees based on distance from St. Peters. You can find the full travel fee breakdown in the Ceremonial Sound Overview.
If you're outside the area entirely, reach out anyway — I'm happy to let you know whether travel is possible and what that would look like.
